Internships

If you said yes yes YES, then you should be the BOM intern!

What is Barrel of Monkeys?

Take the mind of a 10 year-old child, a dash of creative writing, and a talented ensemble of professional actors, comedians, musicians and playwrights and you get: Barrel of Monkeys!

If you’re looking at this page, you probably already know about what BOM does, but if not…you should check this out.

What does a Monkey intern do?

The BOM intern helps the BOM staff with a variety of projects that range from the ridiculous (typing scripts for stories based on videos of school performances) to the, well, typical (entering data from surveys into a database). Interns also assist with fundraising, marketing, and special events depending on their interest and skill levels.

PLEASE NOTE: There will be no contact with students during the typical internship, although interns are always welcome to observe our creative writing classes and to attend rehearsals and performances. Few volunteer opportunities exist within the classroom setting, and thus are usually filled by Company Members. If you wish to inquire about these opportunities, please .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Who is the perfect Monkey intern?

We’re looking for people who are dependable, responsible and have a good sense of humor! Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint) and ability to work with both Mac and PC are a must. The ideal candidate is skilled at mail merges and proofreading, has some design experience, and is a detail oriented self-starters! Love for theatre, education and respect for a child’s imagination is a big bonus. 10 to 15 hours per week, mostly on weekday afternoons (mornings and/or evenings possible).

How do I apply?

As a prerequisite for a BOM internship, you must volunteer for front-of-house duties at “That’s Weird, Grandma” for a 6-week run. This enables us to get to know you and you to know us, which includes experiencing a delightful performance that is new and different each week free of charge!

If you intend on becoming an intern, please email Company Manager, Maggie Fullilove-Nugent at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) to set up volunteer time for “That’s Weird, Grandma”. Email Executive Director, Amanda Farrar at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) with a one or two paragraph description of why you want to be the intern, a resume, and your availability for office work (including start/end dates).

Volunteer on a Board Sub-Committee

If you have specific business skill (such as marketing, event planning, human resources, etc.) and would like to help, email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for more information.

If you are interested in Board service, we recommend first volunteering on a sub-committee. We are continually looking for more individuals that represent our community to serve in a leadership capacity, and a board sub-committee is a low time commitment way to determine if board service is right for you!
