Dear Bomerica,

First of all, thanks to Maggie for her Bomerica Pride-filled comment on the last entry, and also for accidentally creating a game called, “Switch the word “bomerica” with the name of any number of company members, and this comment is still true.” Long may Matt Miller stand, tall and funny. For example. There are others. The director of this very Little Village show, and director of much else, Luke Hatton; he works as well. Heck, if it’s just my Dad and I standing in a room, we can throw my name in there. As long as Luke, Matt, or Lacy Katherine Campbell doesn’t walk in and ruin everything by being funnier and taller.

Well, in case anybody is worried, this Little Village show is shaping up to be quite the treat…...

Heeeelllllloooooo Ammmeeeerrrrrrriiiicccccccaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!

All those exclamation points and bonus letters right there were me going basically crazy with power. With blog power. I should say up front that this is my first sweet blog EVER, on ANY blog. Whether about what I just cooked for dinner, or my wacky daily adventures riding the wacky CTA, or whatever random sentence my two year old just tried to say and messed up because he has flat out terrible language skills. (Note: I don’t have a two year old, but let’s not all sit here and try to pretend this doesn’t happen.)

The point is, I’m glad to be starting my blogging career with this, the first post from the LITTLE VILLAGE SHOW 20111111111111111!!!!! (Hmm. Welp. Turns out that doesn’t work as well with numbers.)

Also from now on, everybody here will be living not in “America,” but rather, “Bomerica.” So. It’s a lot like America, but has 53 states. The extra three being, “Hilarious State,” “Funny Land,” and “South Canada.” That last one is right up there on the border by North Dakota. Discover the Spirit!

We will, North Dakota’s tourism board slogan. We will. The Little Village spirit. Stay tuned Bomerica. If I do my job correctly, this blog should basically be like a hot gossip website for the next week. Or a shiny, shiny celebraty “rag.” So come on back to see who wears stuff better than each other, and maybe even find out who is just like us. I hope to get some paparazzi snaps of perhaps Emjoy Gavino or maybe Ricky Harris making a weird face while eating chips. (That’s just like what I do when I eat chips! I bet we would be awesome friends!)

Stockton was Rockton!

We just finished our performance at the STOCKTON school. And I gotta say it ROCKED a TON.

I was a teacher at the school, and I got to say there is a huge difference when you personally know the kids that wrote the stories. I got a kick at their reactions to their work onstage, and we were able to perform stories by every single child in the entire residency in this show (and it was only 55 minutes…way to go Director Kate Staiger). They feel like rockstars for a day and you feel like you made a difference.

Ricky has got to be the king of writing 30 second songs.
The sister, by the by, is the amazing Candy Lawrence who volunteer taught at Stockton and joined us in rehearsals. She cracked us up constantly. Let’s hope she throws us a surprise party soon!

This Just In: Monkeys Take Over Stockton School

(To be read in a 1920’s broadcast voice)
This is Philip, reporting from the rehearsal room, about the upcoming STOCKTON performance, featuring a cast of talented Monkeys, directed by the fantastic Kate Staiger. Kate is one heck of a director, keeping all the monkeys in line, even when squabbles break out like who gets the next banana!

Music? You bet there’s music. This highly musical cast has a total of six songs in the show! Probably the most I’ve ever seen performed by a cast of Monkeys. Whether it’s a song about a girl falling into a trash heap, an elevator that keep going up and down, or a serious take on stopping violence, these Monkeys are hee-hawing and hootin-n-hollerin their jowls out.

Pictures? Why yes, this field reporter has managed to get actual footage of the Monkeys in rehearsal.

As you can see, sometimes, fights break out over who gets to play the lead role!

This story featured a monkey who kept tripping and turning into various hilarious characters!

Such as…a Karate Fighter!

A clumsy clown!

And what’s this…some kind of monkey? Well, he already was a monkey, so not much to see here!

Unfortunately, sickness has invaded the cast of Stockton.
Why this actress playing a girl named Litzy can barely keep the tissues in her nose!

It doesn’t help that her two friends keep feeding her more banana splits!

We’ll have more footage of the Stockton rehearsals coming in, including some monkeys in gospel CHOIR robes bringing down the house.

It’s the day of the show!

One last blog entry for today, the day of the Loyola Park show!!

Here’s our talented actor/artist Brandon Cloyd, creating props with help from the also talented Jenny Weiner.

Directed by our brilliant Oona Kersey Hatton and starring an amazing cast, this show is going to be fantastic and I can’t wait for it. Just four short hours away!
