That's Weird, Grandma is Perfect for Groups!

If your college class, social club, summer camp, YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, workplace team, or youth group is looking for some cutting edge, all-ages theatre, come on over! We have performances all year round. Our 139-seat performance space at the Neo-Futurist Theater is located in the heart of Andersonville, and our staff will work with you to make your group outing a fabulous and memorable experience.

“Edgy and children’s theatre are terms that do not usually butt up against each other in a review…but [Barrel of Monkeys] is edgy children’s theatre that rivals anything done by and for grown-ups that comes out of those larger purveyors of Chicago-style sketch comedy.”
Chicago Stage Review

“If you don’t have a good time, there’s something wrong with you.” - Chris Piatt, Chicago Reader

Universities: Do you have a course in ensemble theatre, social justice based performance, arts education, multicultural theatre, English as a second language education, common core curriculum, creative writing, and/or community-based arts learning?  We do all of that! After teaching creative writing residencies in Chicago Public Elementary Schools the actors and musicians of Barrel of Monkeys adapt the student-written work for the stage and share it with you. Post-show talk-backs may be arranged with sufficient advance request. As our actors are our teaching artists and vice versa, talkbacks can cover a wide variety of topics and can be catered to your needs.

Youth Groups: “Sketch comedy” is not usually synonymous with “kid friendly,” but here is where Barrel of Monkeys’ performances are unique! Everything we perform is written by 3rd-5th graders from under-served elementary schools in Chicago, and the show is completely appropriate for all ages. Children aged 5 years and above will have the most rewarding experience.

Birthday Parties: Come join us for your child’s (or your inner child’s) next Birthday Bash! The show lasts one hour. There are copious restaurants and bars in the Andersonville neighborhood to visit pre- or post-show!

Groups of 10 or more pay just $8 per adult, $6 per child!

Shows are held almost every Monday night at 8pm, and for a limited number of Sunday matinees at 2pm.
